KR MELT - Scrap Preheating Technology

KR MELT is an advanced Scrap Preheating Technology designed by SARRALLE and KR Tec to optimize Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) operations. This cutting-edge system preheats scrap metal to approximately 700°C by efficiently harnessing the sensible heat from furnace off-gases.

KR MELT significantly reduces electric energy consumption, achieving energy savings of at least 100 kWh per ton compared to conventional EAF methods. This improved efficiency leads to lower operational costs by reducing electrode and refractory consumption. Additionally, the technology enhances productivity by over 20% due to shorter power-on and power-off times and continuous scrap charging capabilities.

The system operates within an airtight enclosure, minimizing heat loss and reducing dust emissions by 30%. These environmental benefits ensure compliance with stringent regulations while enhancing workplace safety by eliminating the risks associated with charging wet scrap.

From an operational standpoint, KR MELT enables continuous and independent scrap charging during furnace operation, eliminating the need to open the EAF roof. This significantly reduces heat loss and extends the lifespan of critical furnace components, such as the roof and delta. Moreover, maintenance requirements are minimized, as the system eliminates critical water-cooled mechanical parts, ensuring higher reliability and reduced downtime.

KR MELT is not only a state-of-the-art scrap preheating system, this technology allows for a lot flexibility by having the KR MELT (preheating) option on one side, and having furnace that can operate conventionally as well. An EAF with KR MELT allows to produce all types of steel, common steels and special steel (SBQ).
